Broad beans are bób in Polish (pronounced 'boob'), so there!
Fancy a vegan breakfast? Course you do! Including the bread roll, this cost around 1.50 zl (0.35 euros) Let's go!
What you need:
- 1/2 kilo of fresh broad beans
- 1 finely chopped onion
- 1 large clove of garlic all chopped up
- 2 fresh green chillis
- a nice big handful of chopped coriander
- 1/2 tsp of turmeric
- 1/2 tsp of cumin
- salt and pepper to taste
- some rapeseed oil
What to do:
1. Wash the 'bób' thoroughly.
2. Boil the 'bób' for around 7 minutes, drain and run through with cold water.
3. Shell the damn things without losing the will to live. Break the skin on the thin and squeeze out – that's the best way I can describe the procedure. I like the vibrant green colour!
4. Chop the onion
5. Heat some rapeseed oil in a pan. Saute the chopped onion till soft.
6. Chop the rest of the ingredients.
7. Add to the onions in the pan.
8. Add the turmeric and cumin. Saute for another minute.
9. Add the broad beans.
10. Stir and mash to form a paste. Add salt and pepper to taste.
11. Enjoy with bread.
Cost to make two jars of around 20 servings?
- Broad beans: 8 zl
- Onion: 1 zl
- Rest: 1 zl
Total: 10 zl
Per serving: 0.50 zl (that's around 10 British pence)
